The structure to be analyzed is represented by the equipment of the electrovalves of helium lines controlling the hydrogen and oxygen flow in the Vulcain engine of the main stage of Ariane 5. The analyses involved the main structures (box, covers, pressure vessels, filter housing) and the internal components (tubes, valves, fittings, screws). Three different configurations were examined with various finite element models (3-D shells, 3-D solids, axisymmetric and pipe elements).
The loads were represented by limit operating accelerations, pressures, random vibration, acoustic pressure induced by the noise of the main engine, and thermal gradient. A fatigue analysis was also performed.
