Anti-ice system – Pressure reducing and shut-off valve.

 

The valves, in two different configurations, are used in the anti-ice system of a commercial aircraft. It is constituted essentially by two caps with cylindrical, conical and spherical surfaces connected through bolted flanges. The valve, made of Inconel 718, works at high values of temperature and pressure and is subjected to vibration.

Axisymmetric and 3-D solid models are used. The behavior of the joint is studied in detail with the representation of the contacting surfaces, the friction coefficient and the preload of screws, by using 3-D gap elements.
